Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the start of a vaccination campaign against the emerging corona virus, Thursday, with the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine.
Maduro said in a speech to a crowd of his supporters: “This Thursday, February 18th is a historic day, because today began the vaccination of all health workers in the country, Sputnik V, the safest vaccine in the world.”
Venezuela received the first batch of “Sputnik V” vaccine on February 13, as part of a contract concluded between the two parties in December 2020.
Venezuela is one of the countries that participated in the third phase of clinical tests of the “Sputnik V” vaccine, where the trials included 2000 people, and Maduro previously said that it showed that the effectiveness of the vaccine reached about 100%.
