The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry announced the delivery of a protest note to the British ambassador to the country due to “interference in the internal affairs” of Venezuela, according to a foreign ministry statement.
The statement added that Foreign Minister Jorge Ariasa handed over the memorandum “to condemn the British intervention policy towards Venezuela.”
Ariasa explained that the handover of the memorandum took place against the background of receiving information about Britain’s funding of organizations and the media in Venezuela without informing the country’s authorities.
Britain had announced earlier that it did not recognize the results of the recent parliamentary elections that took place in Venezuela last month, amid a boycott by most of the opposition forces, and London called on the Venezuelan authorities to “restore democracy.”
Lawsuits also continue relating to the Bank of England’s refusal to hand over the Venezuelan gold it holds to the Venezuelan government.
