Ambassador of Venezuela to the European Union, Claudia Salerno Caldera
Venezuela’s ambassador to the European Union, Claudia Salerno Caldera, commenting on her declaration of persona non grata, stated that her country will not trade its sovereignty.
“I have been defending Venezuela, by arranging relations with the European Union on the basis of respect, but we will not trade the independence and sovereignty of our country. Venezuela respects itself,” the ambassador wrote on Twitter.

The European Union had announced the expulsion of the ambassador, in response to a similar move by Caracas.
Earlier, Venezuela expelled its European Union ambassador in response to Brussels expanding sanctions against Venezuelan officials, whom the European Union accused of “undermining democracy” in the country.
