Vicente Carrillo Fuentes “El Viceroy”, leader of the Juárez Cartel, accumulates 48 years in prison, after a new sentence

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that a federal judge sentenced 20 years in prison for drug trafficking against Vicente Carrillo Fuentes “The Viceroy“, former leader of Juarez Cartel, who last year was also sentenced to 28 years in prison for money laundering and arms stockpiling. The offender also faces other processes, so his sentence could increase.

The new sentence was obtained by the Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Organized Crime Matters (FEMDO) in its Delegation in the State of Mexico, for the crime of organized crime in his hypothesis against health.

In October 2014, the arrest warrant against Vicente Carrillo Fuentes was complied with, leaving him at the disposal of the Judge of the case. That same year, a formal prison order was issued, so in disagreement with the ruling, his defense filed various amparo proceedings, until in 2019, the Fifth Unitary Court of the Second Circuit confirmed the formal prison order.

In this sense, a federal judge handed down a sentence of 20 years in prison against Carrillo Fuentesfor being criminally responsible for the commission of the crime of drug trafficking.

He is currently being held at the Federal Center for Social Readaptation (Cefereso) Number 13, based in Miahuatlán de Porfirio Diaz, Oaxaca.

On September 14, 2021, another federal judge ruled against “The Viceroy” for the crimes of organized crime with the purpose of committing crimes against health and organized crime with the purpose of committing the crimes of operations with resources of illicit origin and collection of firearms.

At least since 1997, Vicente Carrillo Fuentes “El Viceroy”, along with other individuals, were part of the criminal organization identified as “Juarez Cartel” o “The line”, then commanded by Amado Carrillo Fuentes, “The Lord of the heavens”, that at his death his brother Vicente continued the leadership, whose main purpose was to commit crimes against health, operating mainly in Valle de Juárez, Guadalupe, Distrito Bravo, Chihuahua, in the transfer of drugs to the United States.
