Game 1 of the 2023 French Pro A Finals did not go according to plan for consensus No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama.
His Metropolitans 92 team went up against top seeded Monaco in Saturday’s opening game and fell 87-64.
In the first game of the best-of-five series, Wembanyama only managed eight points on 3-of-8 shooting with seven rebounds and two assists across 27 minutes of action.
While Wembanyama still performed up to his potential by the eye test, the statistics clearly paint a different picture.
Regardless of the result in this game – or the series in general – it’s unlikely that the San Antonio Spurs will look elsewhere with their top overall selection.
