RT correspondent in Tunis reported on Saturday evening that violent protests have spread to a number of Tunisian regions, amid anger over the deteriorating economic conditions.
Witnesses said that violent night clashes between police and youths broke out today, Saturday, in at least six Tunisian cities, including the capital Tunis and the coastal city of Sousse, amid discontent over the difficult economic and social situation.
The confrontations come as Tunisia commemorates the tenth anniversary of the revolution that toppled President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in protest against poverty, widespread unemployment and sparked the Arab Spring uprisings.
In Sousse, security forces fired tear gas canisters to disperse hundreds of protesters who blocked roads and burned tires, noting that the security forces confronted a riot plan and thwarted a bank robbery.
On the other hand, security sources said that young men broke into shops and stole their contents, and that clashes also took place in the major city of Qalaa, adjacent to Sousse.
Violent protests also erupted in several areas of the capital, including Al-Tadamon neighborhood, Al-Malaseen, Foshana, and Sejoumi, and the states of El Kef, Bizerte and Siliana witnessed protests and riots.
