Virgil Van Dijk could miss the rest of the season after he has reportedly suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the Merseyside derby.
The Dutchman was forced off after a horror challenge from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Everton.
And it has been reported by beIn Sports that Van Dijk could be out for the year, in what would be a huge blow to Liverpool’s title defence aspirations.  Â

Van Dijk was replaced by Joe Gomez, and the Dutchman was able to walk off the pitchÂ
Presenter Richard Keys said: ‘The information we are receiving is that he’s done his anterior cruciate ligament and if that is the case – well I say he’s done, with the incident with Jordan Pickford – and he will miss seven to eight months if that is the case.’
It has been reported that following the game Van Dijk was taken to the hospital for a scan on his knee along with midfielder Thiago.
The Liverpool Echo have reported that the Dutch defender left hospital on crutches with the club anxiously waiting on the results of his scan, claiming he could be out for a ‘significant period’.
The Spaniard who made his first start since joining from Bayern Munich, was on the end of a brutal challenge from Richarlison, who unlike Pickford, was sent off for his dangerous tackle.Â

It is not yet been reported as to the extent of Thiago’s injury, but the midfielder also complained about his knee.Â
Van Dijk’s potential ACL injury would be a huge blow to Liverpool’s chances of retaining the Premier League.Â
It would leave Jurgen Klopp’s side with just two senior centre-backs in Joe Gomez and Joel Matip – who both have had their fair share of injury problems in recent seasons.
Liverpool also have midfielder Fabinho who has been played in defence on a number of occasions including the recent 2-0 win over Chelsea.
