Rohde hits a couple of free throws to make it a nine-point game with two and a half minutes to play. Stojakovic stays hot, hitting a short leaning floater in the paint. UVA finally gets an offensive rebound, but Rohde air-balls a three. Virginia fouls Sissoko, who makes both free throws to give Cal a 72-59 lead. Rohde hits a floater to get UVA back within 11, but it’ll be too little, too late. Cal breaks the press and McKneely fouls Stojakovic, who makes 1/2 to give him 23 points for the game. Virginia again fails to secure the defensive rebound and Ola-Joseph draws a foul and makes both free throws. The clock runs out and Cal wins its first-ever ACC game.

Andrej Stojakovic is very clearly the best player on the floor he continues to show it, driving to the basket for another tough finish. Jacob Cofie knocks down a three-pointer. Then Virginia forces a turnover and Rohde drops a pass to Cofie in transition for a big dunk. UVA is back within single digits, trailing by nine. TJ Power misses a mid-range jumper and then Ola-Joseph blows by Power on the other end for a two-hand jam to put Cal back up by 12 points. The Golden Bears haven’t made a bunch of shots lately, but they’ve gone to the free throw line so many times, they’ve been able to keep a healthy lead even when the Hoos went on their little run. Cal leads by 11 with 3:39 to go.

Dai Dai Ames checks into the game and commits a foul before the ball is even inbounded, putting Cal in the bonus with 11 minutes and 47 seconds left in the game. Rohde and Cofie run the pick and roll to perfection with Rohde lobbing to Cofie for a layup. Virginia turns the ball over again and Stojakovic scores in transition. Both teams hit a few free throws and then Rohde tries to draw a foul unsuccessfully but manages to flip in an off-balance shot in the paint while falling away from the basket. Ishan Sharma knocks down his third three-pointer of the game to get Virginia back within 12 points and Mark Madsen calls timeout.

Rohde finds a wide-open Ishan Sharma with a great inbounds pass and he splashes his second three of the game. Buchanan is called for another foul and is subbed out for Anthony Robinson. Ola-Joseph gets a nice roll on a floater to extend Cal’s lead. DJ Campbell blows past Sharma for a layup. Jeremiah Wilkinson goes right at Sharma and scores with a crafty finish. Sharma sends a nice bounce pass to Robinson rolling to the basket and he finishes plus a foul. He finishes the three-point play at the line, but Virginia looks lost on both ends of the floor right now.

Andrew Rohde finally gets Virginia on the board with a turnaround hook shot that gets a very friendly roll. UVA had a good 2-on-1 opportunity in transition, but McKneely doesn’t make the extra pass and has his layup blocked by Sissoko. Stojakovic drives on Rohde and draws another foul. He’ll shoot a pair after the timeout.

After scoring just four points in the first half, Cal runs a play for Andrej Stojakovic on the first possession of the second half and he scores on a backdoor cut plus a foul on Taine Murray. Virginia turns the ball over and then Murray fouls Blacksher on a three-pointer and UVA is fortunate that he makes only 1/3 free throws. Cal gets three offensive rebounds in a single possession and Sissoko eventually scores to open up a nine-point lead for Cal. Stojakovic drives on Rohde and hits a short jumper in the paint. It’s an 8-0 run for Cal to open the second half and Ron Sanchez calls timeout.

Andrej Stojakovic, a top 20 scorer in the country, scores his first two points of the night from the free throw line. Ishan Sharma gets to the paint and then finds Elijah Saunders at the top of the key for a wide-open three-pointer. Christian Tucker hits a heavily contested runner in the paint late in the shot clock. Andrew Rohde aggressively drives past Stojakovic to the basket for a tough layup. Saunders grabs his own miss and then draws a foul, making both free throws. Joshua Ola-Joseph gets an offensive rebound for Cal and draws a foul, making 1/2 free throws. Saunders can’t secure the rebound on the missed second free throw, giving Cal another chance, and then Buchanan falls in the paint, freeing up Sissoko for a dunk off the pass from Stojakovic.
Saunders draws a foul and goes to the line for a one-and-one, making both free throws. Stojakovic throws a beautiful skip pass to Ola-Joseph in the corner for a corner three. UVA comes up empty again and then Stojakovic hits a heavily-contested fadeaway jumper in the paint. Andrew Rohde gets to the cup for another tough layup just before the buzzer. Virginia goes to the halftime break trailing Cal 35-32.

Cal pushes the ball quickly up the floor and Rytis Petraitis is able to attack TJ Power, who was late recovering, and hit a runner to put the Golden Bears back in front. Buchanan grabs an offensive rebound, draws a foul, and makes both free throws again. Jacob Cofie is whistled for his second personal foul and checks out of the game. Petraitis drives on Saunders and scores over him. Stojakovic drives and dishes to a wide-open DJ Campbell, who swishes the corner three. Buchanan is in the right place at the right time for a putback. Rohde is called for a foul and Cal is now in the bonus.

Virginia gets a 5-on-4 opportunity and Taine Murray hits the wide-open three from the right wing in transition. TJ Power hands off to Ishan Sharma, who pulls up from the right wing and splashes the open triple. Cal gets multiple second chances on offensive rebounds and Mady Sissoko eventually finishes through contact plus a foul on Power. Rebounding continues to be a major problem for Virginia.

Blake Buchanan checks into the game, grabs an offensive rebound, and then draws a foul on an alley-oop dunk attempt, making both free throws. After a lengthy delay for the refs to sort out a clock issue, Dai Dai Ames gets stuck under a screen and Jeremiah Wilkinson, one of the top freshmen in college basketball, knocks down a three-pointer. DJ Campbell gets into the lane and hits a floater. Ames fouls Wilkinson on a three and he makes all three free throws to tie the game at 11-11. After Virginia raced out to an 11-3 lead, the clock delay gave the Golden Bears a chance to catch their breath and they have seized momentum. Wilkinson drives on McKneely and hits a mid-range jumper. It’s a 10-0 run for Cal to take a 13-11 lead.

Cal wins the opening tip and Javon Blackshear Jr. quickly opens the scoring with a three-pointer on the top of the key. Jacob Cofie answers on the other end with a short jumper from just inside the free throw line. Cofie pulls up for another jumper from the elbow and knocks that one down too. Andrew Rohde uses a screen from Cofie to get into the lane for a floater. Virginia gets another stop and then Rohde penetrates and fires a pass to Saunders, who swings it to Isaac McKneely at the top of the key for a wide-open three. That’s nine points in a row for the Hoos.
