Video and Audio
The series “Voice and Picture” is an Egyptian drama written by Muhammad Suleiman Abdel Malek and directed by Mahmoud Abdel Tawab, with a group starring Hanan Mutawa, Sedqi Sakhr, Naglaa Badr, Walid Fawaz, Amr Wahba, Murad Makram, Walaa Al Sharif, and others.
The events revolve around Radwa, a poor girl who is trying to find a better job opportunity to help her husband pay off his debts. She joins work for a well-known dentist. He soon tries to harass her and she decides to report him, but he uses his influence and money to deny the accusations against him and accuse her of lying and defaming him.
The doctor is found murdered, and of course the finger is pointed at Radwa. Then, as events pass, the circle of suspects expands until it almost includes the majority of those at work, which increases the excitement and suspense and thus the popularity of the work.
Between the positives and attractions
The work had many positives, most important of which was the writing, as Suleiman Abdel Malek mastered the script and dialogue, and this was represented in an ascending dramatic narrative with a balanced rhythm. Abdel Malek also paid attention to the details that reflect the psychological characteristics of the characters of the heroes despite the diversity of their cultural, social and material backgrounds.
These differences were not only highlighted through dialogue, but were also confirmed through body language, clothing, accessories, and décor, which made the work resemble a hierarchical structure that complements each other to emerge in the best possible condition.
As for the choice of the actors who were assigned the championship, it was almost perfect, first with Hanan Mutawa, who recently presented a work that made the majority unanimously praise her performance. Despite the strength of her talent, she presented some series recently during which she received mixed opinions. But this time, many expressed their admiration for her portrayal of the character, especially after the first episodes, which were predominantly melodramatic.
Aside from Hanan Mutawa, there are several other names that attracted more attention because they were a surprise greater than expectations. The first of them is Walid Fawaz, who had previously revealed his talent in other series such as “The Journey,” “The Seven Commandments,” “Without Mentioning Names,” and “The Covenant.” However, the works that have been presented to him recently have not given him enough space to flex his artistic muscles.
With his role here in “Sound and Picture,” he returns to prove himself, confirming his acting abilities. Fawaz embodied the character of “Abdul Ghani” with all his quirks, the tone of voice, the heavy movement, and even the extra weight. This is a character that may seem easy, but in reality it is complex. He is a person who has been wronged by life, and has become peaceful to the point of disgusting weakness, which sometimes makes the viewer despise him. Sometimes he sympathizes with him.
In second place, Naglaa Badr comes in her best role ever, as she played a complex character of a woman who hides more than she reveals, and is forced to deal with emotional stability with her children, society, and the judiciary despite all the fragility and brokenness inside her following her husband’s successive scandals and her certainty that he is cheating on her, that pain that She manages him with all her energy, but he sneaks into the viewer through her distorted looks, her hanging tears, and the sometimes trembling tones of her voice.
As for Sedqi Sakhr, who for the first time has had more dramatic space than usual, he has been able to prove that he has a good talent that will be more prominent with his positive choices after he attracted attention in the series “Revo.” In addition to his talent, Sakhr has an attractive lightness and spontaneity, which became more evident during the bilateral relationship between him and Amr Wahba, who plays the role of his assistant in the series.
Amr Wahba was the only cheerful face among all the other dark events with the light comedy he presented, which made the audience demand – sarcastically – that his role be generalized in all heavy drama series.
Demanding amendments to labor laws
It is noteworthy that the New Woman Foundation, which supports women’s rights in Egypt, took advantage of the events of the series to reiterate the importance of having a clear and explicit text within the labor law to protect against violence and sexual harassment.
This is what the Foundation confirmed will not be achieved on the ground unless Egypt ratifies ILO Convention No. 190 and Recommendation 206 annexed to it, as they provide realistic and decisive solutions that activate effective mechanisms for reporting or investigating issues of harassment and abuse.
The first of its kind
In addition to the artistic quality and the increasingly interesting plot, “Sound and Picture” is credited with being the first of its kind in Arab drama to showcase the idea of artificial intelligence, and how it can be exploited to reverse the facts or even ignite communication platforms with fabricated videos that are difficult to distinguish from the real ones.
The work shed light on communication platforms that can be a double-edged sword, sometimes by giving victims the opportunity to address the public and reveal the injustice that occurred to them, and at other times by spreading misleading lies, and the most dangerous thing is to exploit everything and anything to create noise and create advertisements to rank on search engines, even if it comes… This is at the expense of societal and human values.
Unlike the usual recent drama that tries to win for women throughout the series, the creators of the work pointed out one of the neglected rights of fathers, as we saw lawyer Lotfi Abboud (Sidqi Sakhr), who divorced his wife, and suffers from her stubbornness in allowing him to see his son despite his spending on the child and granting her all her rights.
Who is the killer?
After the work reaches its midpoint, and instead of approaching the perpetrator, the events continue to become more mysterious and the dramatic threads expand, so that everyone becomes suspects, starting with Radwa (Hanan Mutawa), the victim of harassment and her husband, passing through the clinic secretary, the victim’s wife, all the way to his two sons and even the defense lawyer personally.. Did someone do it, or did the perpetrator become a completely new party?
