With colored glass and wood mosaics, 23-year-old Dalia Sherif implemented her graduation project under the title “Void Marriage”, the project against early marriage and the marriage of minors, whose owner chose this title as an expression of the invalidity of the marriage contract between an adult man and a girl who did not exceed the legal age for marriage.
An invalid marriage, a graduation project
The features of a mature man and a young girl who is never aware of what is happening to her and what she is going for were very expressive of the idea that took Dalia about a month and a half of work, and impressed many on the social networking site Facebook.
Dalia, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Mural Painting, class of 2021, said that the hero of the project is the characters of the minor girl and the man, and the young girl’s childhood showed her innocence, while the man appeared to look like a voyeur from the wall of the room and looked at her with greed, and other elements were used such as the doll or the teddy bear who The little girl held him tightly as a sign of her attachment to her childhood.
And she continued: The book in the painting refers to the contract in which the girl married, and the cactus, which means the feelings of estrangement between her and the old man, and added: “I chose the issue of underage marriage because it is an important issue and we need to shed light on it, such as issues of harassment and circumcision. I read a lot about it and watched more about it. Videos of girls who were married early in order to understand their feelings and the reasons that motivate parents to stop their marriage in this way, and I can communicate the situation and feeling at work.
She concluded by saying that she hopes to draw and design murals that express several issues in Egypt’s squares, metro stations, and others, to increase people’s awareness of the dangers of such steps, which they do not consider their harsh consequences.
