Volaris achieves recognition in terms of sustainability

Volaris was recognized by the Center for Aviation, Transportation and Environment (CAPA) for its sustainable performance for the company’s operational and financial recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is currently the airline that transports the most passengers within Mexico.

“This recognition makes visible our effort to integrate sustainability into the company’s DNA. In addition to reducing our CO2 emissions by 35.4% by 2030, we continue to create equal opportunities for women and men through initiatives such as IATA’s 25by2025, and we will continue to work to bring the benefits of ultra-low-cost aviation to more people.” commented the executive president and director of the airline, Enrique Beltranena.

The Latin American Environmental Sustainability Airline of the Year recognition is awarded after an analysis of the Airline Sustainability Benchmarking Report, which takes into account criteria such as emission offset programs, emissions per aircraft and total CO2, as well as fuel consumption.

According to the CAPA-Envest Global Environmental Sustainability Report, the ultra-low-cost airline was the second with the fewest emissions per RPK globally in 2021 and the third with the fewest emissions in volume of passengers per kilometer transported. At the end of the same year, it was the first Latin American operator to issue a bond linked to sustainability, and in September 2022 it made its first flight with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

In a statement, it was detailed that the Volaris Corporate Sustainability Program is based on the Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) criteria, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
