Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric sets the course

From Sweden arrives in Mexico the second Volvo electric propulsion model. The C40 is the first to be marketed exclusively with this mechanism and is the first step towards an emission-free future for the manufacturer that announced a few months ago that by 2030 its entire offer will be electric.

The C40 Recharge Pure Electric shares mechanics and a platform with the XC40 Recharge compact SUV, of which there are variants with a combustion engine. The model that concerns us this time is developed as a sports crossover, so it is very attractive and all that remains is to see the continuous fall of the roof, its height and the shape of the rear in which there is even space to accommodate a spoiler.

It has a length of 4.4 meters by 1.8 meters wide and a height of 1.6 meters. Its design is clearly that of a Volvo with the shapes of the headlights and the signature of Thor’s halo, the boomerang skulls and the rectangular grille with the logo in the center.

Reduce your footprint

Volvo thought of developing a vehicle with a clearly lower environmental impact than a combustion vehicle. Inside, the various components are made from recycled materials while some others such as the steering wheel, the gear lever and the upholstery are not completely covered in leather. The design is clearly linked to the XC40 Recharge and retains the high level of finishes and assembly to which the Swedish firm has accustomed us.

It has a central 9” color touch screen, which, thanks to its connectivity, has access to the Google platform. The occupants can enjoy Google Play, Google Maps and Google Assistant, all of them through voice commands.

The audio system is Harman Kardon Premium, it also has a wireless charger and a 360º camera.

A battery with a capacity of 78 kWh feeds its two electric motors, one for each axle, which together develop 408 horsepower and a torque of 660 Nm; top speed is limited to 180 km/h.

The battery, which offers a range of 444 kilometers, has a guarantee of 8 years or 160 thousand kilometers; it can be recharged from 0% to 80% in 40 minutes with a charge of 150 kW while with an AC outlet it goes from 0% to 80% in a period of 6 to 8 hours.
