Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller has weighed in on the enduring debate over the NFL’s greatest quarterback, choosing his former Denver Broncos teammate Peyton Manning over Tom Brady.
Speaking on the “Glory Daze with Johnny Manziel” podcast, Miller acknowledged the strength of Brady’s legacy but asserted that Manning’s impact on the game was more profound.
“For me, it’ll always be Peyton Manning,” Miller stated. “Peyton Manning, he changed the quarterback position.” Miller highlighted Manning’s revolutionary pre-snap reads and audibles at the line of scrimmage, noting, “He did it all with his arm, and it was beautiful.”
While Miller roots for and respects Brady, whom he called one of the “greats, for sure,” his choice is based on Manning’s transformation of how the position is played.
The primary argument for Brady centers on his unprecedented seven Super Bowl victories in ten appearances. In contrast, Manning secured two championships in four trips to the title game.
Statistically, both players built legendary, Hall of Fame careers. Manning, who held numerous passing records upon retirement, finished his career with 71,940 yards and 539 touchdowns. He still holds the single-season record for touchdown passes with 55, set in 2013.
Brady, however, ultimately surpassed Manning to become the NFL’s all-time leader in both passing yards (89,214) and touchdowns (649).
Although Brady generally had the upper hand in their head-to-head matchups, Manning held a 3-2 advantage in their five AFC Championship Game encounters. While the debate over the “GOAT” remains subjective, Miller stands firmly behind the quarterback he witnessed dominate firsthand.
