VW for the assembly of Jetta and Taos vehicles in Puebla due to the lack of semiconductors

Volkswagen from Mexico will stop the production of its vehicle assembly lines Jetta and Taos at its Puebla plant during the month of December due to a lack of semiconductors, the union of the automotive company informed its workers.

From Monday 5 to December 23the workers that operate in the production line of the Jetta model will not work in any of their shifts, although they will be paid with 73.57% of their salary.

Through a statement to employees, the Independent Union of Workers in the Automotive, Similar and Related Industry “Volkswagen de México”, explained: due to the lack of availability of components, “it is necessary to implement production stoppages for the segment 1 and its auxiliary areas”.

In the case of your model Taosthe work stoppage will be applied only in the second shift until December 23.

The automaker is expected to stop producing around 2,500 units during that period, which will be reflected in domestic sales and exports, after both Jetta and Taos belong to the group of units with the highest demand.

Throughout the year, VW is one of the brands in the Mexican market that has been most impacted by “lack of semiconductors”, which has forced them to stop production.

This has already had an impact on internal sales, since last November they plummeted 57% compared to the same month of 2021, reporting 3,645 units placed, against 8,390 in November of the previous year.

According to Guido Vildozo, associate director of research and analyst for the Americas at S&P Global Mobility, the region hardest hit by the global chip shortage has been North America.

He mentioned that the lack of semiconductors, a problem that worsened with the Covid-19 pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as “perverse inflation”, will continue to show negative signs for the automotive industry, so it will be until 2025. or 2026 when it is brought back to pre-pandemic levels.
