Wall Street opens mixed; Dow Jones falls after touching its best level since April

The three main stock indices of the US market have mixed performances on Thursday, after a session of strong advance. Investors are starting the last month of this year cautiously, after learning that inflation eased in October.

The index Nasdaq, of high technological weight, is located in positive territory, with an advance of 0.13% to a level of 11,482.55 points. The Dow Jones of 30 industrial giants falls 0.90% to 34,280.16 points and the S&P 500 of 500 values ​​yields 0.10% to 4,076.06 points.

In yesterday’s session, the indices enthusiastically welcomed the words of Jerome Powell, president of the Federal Reserve (Fed), who said they would probably have to moderate interest rate hikes starting at their December meeting.

Powell’s speech sent the Dow rising to an April high, while the Nasdaq led trading boosted by shares of big technology companies, whose valuations have been hit by rate hikes.

Among the main sectors of the S&P are mixed performances. In the Dow Jones, 24 of the 30 values ​​fell, with the titles of Salesforce as its worst value by yielding 10%; followed by those of JP Morganwith 1.82% and Boeingwith 1.77 percent.

This morning it was learned that inflation slowed in the United States in October, to 6% year-on-year against 6.3% in September. At the monthly rate, it remained stable at 0.3% according to the PCE index, the one preferred by the Fed and published by the Department of Commerce.

On the other hand, investors received the number of new applications for support for the unemployed, which showed a drop in registrations to 225,000 from a previous figure of 241,000 and less than a forecast of 235,000 from the consensus of analysts.
