The Warriors took a game against a depleted Blazers without excessive shocks. The San Francisco team won 104-94 taking advantage of the absences of Billups, among which was Damian Lillard, who missed his fifth game due to his abdominal injury, and CJ McCollum, recently diagnosed with a pneumothorax in his right lung.
This allowed Steve Kerr’s side to always be ahead on the scoreboard, although the distances were never insurmountable. Only in the last quarter did the locals manage to take their advantage above 10 points, accelerating at the right time to avoid a tight end in which life was complicated. In this way, the current leaders of the league reached 21 wins, breaking the tie with the Suns and returning, at least for the moment, as the first solo.
However, many of the eyes were more on Stephen Curry than on the team itself. The point guard is a few games away from becoming the top 3-pointer in NBA history, and in fact Kerr had considered (not without a certain tone of joke) the possibility that he would achieve it this very morning. For this, the point guard would have needed the exorbitant figure of 16 triples, although he finally stayed at 6 and placed himself with a total of 2,964, only 9 less than Ray Allen scored in his entire career.
“He needed more triples than anyone has scored in a single game, but in the end he only had one routine night,” said the coach. “For him six triples are nothing, although for example I think I have never scored so many in a game in my entire career,” he concluded. His memory didn’t fail him, as Kerr’s record in a single game was five triples.
Curry finished in this way as the top scorer of his own with 22 points, followed by Jordan Poole’s 20 and Otto Porter Jr.’s 15 Andrew Wiggins, meanwhile, reached 14, while Draymond Green could only score 5 but He also added 10 rebounds and 8 assists.
On the visiting side, Norman Powell was in charge of keeping the Blazers in the game with 26 goals, although he reached that number in a rather ill-advised match (8/23). Somewhat more precise was Nassir Little, who reached 18 points with a 5/8 shooting, while Jusuf Nurkic had a fairly complete performance with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists.
