Washington DC Attorney General Karl Racine on Monday sued Google for what he called deceptive location practices that invade users’ privacy.
Three other state attorneys general also plan to file lawsuits as part of a bipartisan effort to hold Google accountable on privacy issues, his office said in a statement.
“Google falsely led consumers to believe that changing the settings on their accounts and devices would allow customers to protect their privacy and control what personal data the company could access,” Racine said.
“The truth is that, contrary to Google’s statements, it continues to systematically surveil customers and profit from their data. Google’s false statements are a clear violation of consumers’ privacy,” he added.
