The Washington Wizards has executed the team options in their possession so that Rui Hachimura and Dani Avdija remain under contract in the 2022-23 campaign; Chase Hughes reports from NBC Sports Washington.
The players, who curiously were chosen as number 9 in the 2019 and 2020 drafts, are part of the nucleus that the capitalists want to grow around Bradley Beal and Spencer Dinwiddie, who arrived in the last free agency (via sign-and-trade) with a three-year, $ 62 million contract.
Hachimura is now entering his third NBA season after being a member of the second rookie quintet on his debut. Last year he went up to 13.8 points and 5.5 rebounds on average. Regarding Avdija, he had 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 23.3 minutes per night, starting 32 of the 54 games he played.
As for the long-term future of both, the Japanese will be eligible for a contract extension in 2022. The same will happen with Avdija in 2023 if the Wizards exercise their team option for the 2023-24 season.
