A Washington Metropolitan Police spokesperson has confirmed the arrest of Enrique Tarjo, leader of the Proud Boys group supporting President Donald Trump, on charges of destroying property.
The spokesman added that when Tario was arrested, he was in possession of two ammunition stores for firearms, and he was charged.
The Washington Post reported that the Metropolitan Police arrested Enrique Tario on suspicion of burning a historic church sign in Washington during last month’s protests.
Trump urged his supporters to go to Washington to express their displeasure at the endorsement of the election of President-elect Joe Biden and promoted what he described as the “great protest gathering” in Washington.
The Proud Boys had a major role in the protests and rallies in mid-December that gave way to violent clashes between supporters and opponents of Trump and the sabotage and destruction of property in the city, including historic black churches.
Washington is preparing for a new round of protests on Wednesday, to be organized by Trump supporters to reject the election results.
