Washington rejected the UN request to retract its designation of the Yemeni “Ansar Allah” group as a terrorist organization, and declared its adherence to its decision while setting up mechanisms to mitigate the impact of this classification on the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
Richard Mills, the US representative to the United Nations, told the UN Security Council that his country has seen the warnings about the humanitarian repercussions of its decision on the Houthi group and will take measures to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid and commercial imports to Yemen.
“We believe that this step is the right movement that must be followed to send the right signal if we want the political track to move forward,” he added.

Several UN officials called Thursday on Washington to reverse its decision, which, in their view, would lead to a dangerous deterioration in the humanitarian situation in Yemen, including the possibility of an unprecedented famine.
