David Fischer, Washington’s ambassador to Rabat, announced that his country, under the next president, will not back down from the current President Trump’s decision to consider the Sahara region, the subject of the dispute between Rabat and the Polisario Front, as Moroccan.
“I think the declaration signed by President Donald Trump will remain valid, and it seems that the media are the only ones saying the opposite,” the ambassador said. He added, “We have recognized the Moroccanness of the Sahara, and we defended it among our friends, and we will talk about it with our partners in the future, but we still believe in the supervision of the United Nations on the conflict to find a solution to it, and we support the appointment of a new envoy and support those steps.”
