Baghdad Bounedjah scored two goals as Algeria came from behind twice and tied 2-2 with Burkina Faso – today, Saturday – in the fourth group of the African Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.
Burkina Faso strengthened its lead in the group with four points, while Algeria raised its score to two points in second place, one point behind Angola, before its match with Mauritania, bottom of the standings, later today.
Against the run of the match, Mohamed Konate put Burkina Faso ahead in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time.
Bounedjah equalized for Algeria in the 51st minute after a powerful shot from a free kick executed by Belaili, which hit the defense and reached the Qatari Al-Sadd striker, who shot from close range into the net.
Bertrand Traoré put Burkina back in front in the 71st minute with a penalty kick awarded by the referee after returning to the video assistant referee (VAR) technology.
Bounedjah equalized for Algeria in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the second half after receiving a cross from a corner kick, which he headed high with a powerful header that went into the net.
The Burkina national team will conclude its matches in the group stage by facing Angola next Tuesday, while the Algerian national team will meet its counterpart Mauritania on the same day.
