In other tennis news, the ATP Tour has announced it will pay an additional $18.3 million in prize money to players based on their performances at last year’s nine Masters 1000 tournaments. This figure, part of a profit-sharing plan introduced in 2022, marks a significant increase from the $6.6 million bonus distributed from the 2023 events.
According to the ATP, this addition raises the overall compensation for players in 2024 to a record $261 million. The announcement comes amid criticism from some players about the demanding length of expanded Masters tournaments. It also coincides with ongoing demands for increased pay and a greater say in the sport, highlighted by a class-action antitrust lawsuit filed in March by the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA) against the sport’s major governing bodies.
