Bayer Leverkusen, who played with 10 men for more than one half, won 4-3 on penalties against VfB Stuttgart after scoring a late equaliser to make it 2-2 and win the German Super Cup on Saturday.
Leverkusen, who won the domestic double last season and had lost only once in all competitions, needed just 11 minutes to go ahead when Victor Boniface headed home Edmond Tapsoba's goalward header.

Leverkusen played with 10 men after Martin Terje was sent off with a straight red card for a violent tackle in the 37th minute, and Stuttgart quickly took control of the match.
The goalpost denied the visitors on three occasions, but Stuttgart took the lead in the 63rd minute through substitute Deniz Undav.
But, just like last season, Leverkusen did not give up and Patrik Schick fired home from a through ball from Alejandro Grimaldo two minutes from time.
