Defender Stefan Savic scored an own goal, then Brahim Diaz added a goal near the end of the second extra period, giving Real Madrid an exciting 5-3 victory over rival Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup in Riyadh on Wednesday.
Real will face the winner of the Barcelona-Osasuna match, which will be held tomorrow, Thursday, in the final, which will be held in the Saudi capital next Sunday.
Atletico opened the scoring early with a header from Mario Hermoso in the sixth minute, but Real equalized through Antonio Rudiger, before Ferlan Mendy added the second goal shortly afterwards.
Antoine Griezmann equalized for Atletico in the 37th minute with a wonderful shot from long range.
Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga committed a grave mistake after his attempt to clear the ball hit his teammate Rudiger and bounced into the net, giving Atletico the lead again in the 78th minute, but Dani Carvajal equalized and the two teams went to two additional periods.

When the match seemed headed to penalty kicks, the ball bounced off defender Savic and into his net 5 minutes before the end of regular time.
In the last attempt of the match, Diaz scored from a counterattack into an empty goal after goalkeeper Jan Oblak advanced into the Real penalty area in a desperate attempt to equalize from a corner kick in the final moments.
