2018 saw one of the most “absurd” moments in boxing history when Curtis Harper left the ring after the fight to announce the start of the fight.
And the American boxer has put both his opponent and the public in confusion, as nothing heralds such an end.
It later turned out that Harper’s behavior had a very simple motive, in this way protesting the low fees for the confrontation.
It all started when Harper faced Nigerian Ivy Ajaba in a heavyweight heavyweight match.
And it all began with the procedures of the boxing match: the two players entered the ring, listened to the referee’s instructions before the match, touched each other’s gloves and went to the respective corners.
But then, to their surprise, he rang the start bell, and he went answering the center of the ring and was stunned when Harper climbed the ropes and left the ring towards the locker room.
Harper was definitely disqualified, without injury, and the 26-year-old Agjaba was declared the easiest victory of his career in the fastest fight in boxing history.
The American boxer added to his bad personal statistics, as he achieved 13 victories with the Nigerian on the eve of the fight against five defeats, leaving the space for social networking leaders open to ridicule him and turning him into heavy material to mock his performance.
“The legendary performance of Curtis Harper,” commented one tweet sarcastically.
Another said, “They say Curtis Harper is still walking.”
But what caused the “crazy” boxer to act? It later emerged that Harper was not satisfied with the amount of the fighting fee, considering it a very small amount.
Curtis was offended, and in a conversation with Jordan Hardy, a BBC journalist, he said, “He wasn’t paid enough for the fight.”
The protest did not bring Curtis a success, and according to BoxRec, after being disqualified in front of Agaba, Harper no longer participated in professional fights, but gave the boxing world a parody.
The Nigerian boxer fought eight subsequent fights after defeating Harper, not losing a single fight and he is among the top 20 heavyweight boxers.
