Striker Danny Ings scored the only winning goal for the home side early, in the second minute of the match, at Saint Mary’s in Southampton, with a superb shot in the far right scissor.
Southampton raised its score after this victory to 29 points, and ranks sixth on the Premier League ladder, pending the results of some postponed matches for other clubs.
While Liverpool suffered the second defeat in the current season, the “Premier League”, and the score stopped at 33 points, and leads the league on goal difference against Manchester United, who has a postponed match and thus the opportunity to grab the lead.
