The injury for the entire season of Collin Sexton has made JB Bickerstaff have to change his plans regarding the distribution of minutes, something that has directly affected Isaac Okoro, who has become a starter after starting the course as part of the second Unit.
As usual, the change of assignment brings new responsibilities, and that is why in Cleveland there is interest in the second-year player improving his performance. To date Okoro is averaging 7.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 29.8 minutes per night, numbers that lose a lot when seeing that he is at 36.9% in field goals and 16% in triples. In the organization they know that the guard is a defensive player, but they are not going to stop helping him to find his place in attack.
‘Still no concern, but we have to figure out how to help him. How do we position him to be successful and able to help the team? That is the most important. We need everyone to hit open shots, but each guy has a different role. You have to make it difficult to defend yourself. That’s something we’ve been talking about. He’s very good at moving, running, and catching the ball to finish at the rim, and he’s also a good offensive rebounder. We have to get him to do more of those things. We need it to impact the game according to its characteristics. We don’t need you to score 20 points a night. We need you to help this team win, “says the head coach from the Cavs to Chris Fedor from Cleveland.com.
Beyond Okoro’s individual role, the reality is that Cleveland needs to find solutions to get back on the winning track. Injuries have hit them, and while Jarrett Allen has returned, they are still waiting for rookie Evan Mobley. There are four defeats in a row that jeopardize a campaign that had started really well. Can they recover?
