Weddings in Australia: Bride slammed for petty act against groom’s family

A bride has been slammed for being ‘petty’ on her wedding day and wanting to exclude her fiancé’s family from official photos.

The woman admitted that she held a grudge against her fiancé’s family, especially his sisters, because she wasn’t asked to be in any of the family portraits at their weddings.

She asked if there was a way she could exclude the women from her bridal photographs, but was immediately shut down by hundreds.

It is typically tradition for wedding portraits to include the bride, groom, their families, and spouses.

Unmarried partners are not usually invited into the staged photographs.

The soon-to-be bride posted on an anonymous Facebook forum: ‘So, I don’t want my fiancé’s family to be in any of our wedding portraits, specifically his sisters. I wasn’t asked to be in any portraits when my fiancé’s sister got married. Is this doable?’

Hundreds of comments came flooding in, with many confused about why the bride was so upset about being excluded.

‘You seriously need to grow up and stop being so petty. If you weren’t anything more than a girlfriend, you obviously wouldn’t be in the ‘family’ pictures because you weren’t family at the time,’ a woman said.

She added, ‘However, now it is your wedding and you’re becoming part of the family, so the sisters should be in the photos.’

‘It’s a bit of a risk to include someone who isn’t married in the photos,’ another wrote.

‘My standing rule has always been no ring, assume you won’t be in the pictures. No hurt feelings that way,’ a woman said.

‘My sister and I introduced our partners to our family on Christmas five years ago, and my brother rudely told them they couldn’t be in some pictures,’ a woman said. ‘We’re still together now but my brother had a point.’

A photographer revealed that he’s had to photoshop exes out of wedding photos for years, and that it’s simpler when only married people are included in official photographs. 

While others couldn’t get past why she insisted on being so difficult and uncompromising. 

‘This behaviour will cause a family rift at your wedding,’ a woman warned.

‘You can just skip family photos completely, but are you sure you want to marry into a family you hate?’ a second asked.

‘If I were the groom and my fiancée said no pictures with my family, I’d have a big problem with that,’ a man wrote.

Another woman was confused why the soon-to-be bride was so worried about the issue when she never had to look at the photos again. 

‘I think people overestimate how often they’re going to look at these pictures. My portrait with my spouse is framed and up on the wall – that’s what I see everyday.

‘Everything else with extended family, including photos with my brother’s ex-wife, is in albums I haven’t looked at in years.

‘I’m just not sure it’s worth causing family drama ahead of the day – weddings are dramatic enough.’
