A New Zealand couple have found what is believed to be the world’s largest potato, according to the British newspaper, The Times.
The newspaper noted that Colin and Donna Craig-Brown were doing work on their farm when Colin’s shovel hit something big in the soil. The couple bent down and began digging the body, thinking that it was a giant puff ball, a kind of rare fungal growth, but it turned out that this giant body is a potato, but it is not just a fruit, it is the largest potato fruit that has been recorded, and weighing up to 7.8 kg, That’s roughly equivalent to a few bags of regular potatoes, or even a small dog. We couldn’t believe it, Donna said. It was huge.
Potatoes turned into town celebrities
According to the newspaper, the discovery of the couple caused a sensation in a small town in New Zealand. Although Donna described the fruit as mutated and unsightly, she became a local celebrity around their small farm near Hamilton in the weeks since she was found.
Colin installed a small cart to put the potato on, and named it “Dog”, and apparently he treated it like a dog.

“We put a hat on her and put her on Facebook, and we took her for a walk and exposed to the sun, it was fun, and it’s amazing to see what entertains people,” the couple told the Associated Press.
The Guinness Book of Records indicated that the largest potato was found in Britain in 2011 and weighed less than five kilograms. The couple said they have applied to Guinness World Records to recognize Doug as the largest potato and are waiting for a response.
