Welcome to the sports legacy of Checo Pérez

The Mexico City Grand Prix starts strictly at the Autodromo, but the race is lived with the fans from a week before practice. This year, the presence of Checo Pérez has the weight of maturity, consolidation and sports legacy.

“In a year Sergio Pérez’s career has had chiaroscuro. However, it is notorious that today he is experiencing a stage of consolidation and maturity within his team that he did not have last season. The most convincing example is the number of podiums that he has achieved in the current season and that exceeds the previous one”, explains Jorge Badillo Nieto, founder of Fusion MD Consulting.

The preview of the race offered the Red Bull Show Run at the La Minerva roundabout in Guadalajara and the launch of the documentary series “Never give up” with testimonies from those who have been part of its history. The emblematic exhibition event of the team brought together 130,000 attendees in the city of Guadalajara and is the opportunity to start accounting for the economic benefit and the number of fans that Checo Pérez can gather in his public appearances. The emotion of the fans is an intangible value, but the differences and changes of the Mexican pilot in a year, frame all the possibilities of being able to create content.

“Last year Checo was already beginning to give the results that Red Bull expected and this year the driver shows that after Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly, he is the one who has helped Verstappen win and beat Mercedes, that 2021 was the Constructors champion”, explains to El Economista, Marco Tolama, specialist in motor sports and director of Auto y Pista.

“F1 has grown in global attention like never before and so does our driver. The season closes with the satisfaction of Pérez who had a better adaptation to the chassis and with it, the results were given in his first place in the Monaco Grand Prix, at which time he came within 15 points of Max in the championship. Afterward, Max began to have better results due to the chassis differences,” adds Tolama.

440,000 fans

Increasingly successful United States Grand Prix

Top-flight motoring is ingrained in the preferences of the American consumer.

Formula 1 landed in Austin with the Drivers’ Championship already defined, but that didn’t stop fans from setting the attendance record. The Circuit of the Americas received around 440,000 people, an exorbitant figure compared to that of 2021, which hosted 40,000 fewer fans. F1’s all-time attendance record belongs to Adelaide, which clocked 520,000 fans at the Australian Grand Prix weekend in 1995.

COTA CEO Bobby Epstein told BlackBook that while the circuit “will never have the celebrity or the glitz and glamor of Miami and Las Vegas, it will continue to keep the focus on the fans and the sport,” something that has was clearly evidenced by the weekend attendance.

Epstein has also been reported to host several hotel businesses over the course of the weekend, with the Sports Business Journal (SBJ) reporting that there are plans to build one on the site in the future.

The report says there is currently no timeline for finalizing the deal or when the venue could be built.

“The logistics around a race in New York are extremely challenging, but I am not in a position to close the door on any geography. Away from Austin, it seems Formula 1 hasn’t quite closed the door on a race in New York,” Liberty Media executive Renee Wilm told SBJ. (Drafting)
