Welfare Secretariat suspends operations for #Culiacanazo

The Welfare Secretariat suspended activities related to social programs throughout the state of Sinaloa, due to the drug blockades and shootings resulting from the recapture of Ovidio Guzmán López, son of drug trafficker Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán.

“The Ministry of Well-being informs that due to the extraordinary situation in the state of Sinaloa, all activities of the Well-being programs in that entity are suspended until further notice,” the office published on its Twitter account at 7:15 p.m. hours this Thursday.

During the early hours of the morning, a police operation coordinated by the Secretaries of Security, National Defense and the Navy captured Guzmán López in a town in the city of Culiacán, capital of Sinaloa.

Guzmán López is wanted for various charges related to drug trafficking and organized crime, in addition to being wanted by the United States for drug trafficking to that country.

Ovidio Guzmán was arrested for the first time in October 2019 and released minutes later, due to an escalation of violence in the streets carried out by members of his criminal organization in Sinaloa.

The immediate consequences of the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán today have not been different from those of 2019, known as #Culiacanazo, but the Government managed to hold the alleged drug trafficker prisoner to first transfer him to public security facilities in Mexico City and, later, to the maximum security prison of the Altiplano, in the State of Mexico.
