Wemby fever sweeps San Antonio! Spurs fans form MASSIVE line as they rush to buy the No. 1 pick’s jersey with one supporter even spotted wearing one at the Draft before it even began!
San Antonio Spurs supporters wasted no time in welcoming their shiny new rookie Victor Wembanyama as they immediately hit the fan store to stock up on merchandise.
The 7-foot-4 Frenchman who has been deemed a once-in-a-lifetime prospect was long expected to be drafted by the Spurs after dazzling scouts while playing overseas and it came as no surprise when he was taken with the No. 1 pick.
Immediately after the selection, fans could be seen on a line that wrapped around the corner through the arena to enter the team store.
At the counter in the fan shop, staff could be seen rummaging through boxes of jerseys to sell to the clamoring crowd.
With the pick never in doubt, the Spurs appeared well-equipped to handle the demand having prepared their three different jerseys and training t-shirts ready printed with his name and the No. 1.

However, while most supporters had to rush to secure their jersey following the pick, one fan was apparently so confident in the pick he was prepared before the Draft even started.
He was spotted by Mail Sport’s Alex Raskin at the Barclays Center dressed in a black Wembanyama Spurs jersey before the evening even got underway.
After the pick was finally made official cameras showed the excited reactions of Spurs fans that had gathered in the stands during the teams watch party.
ESPN analyst Marty Smith also was in attendance for the watch party and displayed a Wembanyama caricature shaved into his head.
After being selected first overall, Wembanyama shared some words with ESPN’s Monica McNutt.
‘It’s just… accomplishing something that I’ve been dreaming of, you know, my whole life,’ Wembanyama said.
‘Hearing that that sentence from Adam Silver, you know, I’ve dreamed of it so, so much that, you know, I gotta cry, man.’
Some supporters had made signs with Wembanayama’s face on. One even showed the phenom shooting lasers out of his eyes in reference to his ‘alien’ status gifted by LeBron.
Wembanyama arrived in New York on Monday ahead of the Draft in Brooklyn and has been on a whirlwind tour of the Big Apple ever since.

Back in San Antonio, fans went wild as they celebrated the pick at AT&T Center
He was at the New York Yankees on Tuesday night for their game against Seattle Mariners and threw the first pitch at Yankee Stadium.
Amusingly, Wembanyama wasn’t as accurate with a baseball in his hand – his throw went wide and almost missed the catcher.
But in Texas, he won’t have as many issues with the Spurs who will now officially sharpen the focus in building the team around the Frenchman. Wembanyama will be coached by Gregg Popovich.
The team was last in the Western Conference last season, ending the campaign with a miserable 22-60 record.
