What are the SCJN and the CJF?

The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) and the Federal Judicial Council (CJF) are part of the Judiciary, together with the Electoral Tribunal, the Collegiate Circuit Courts, the Unitary Circuit Courts and the District Courts.

Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation

It is the highest Constitutional Court of the country and head of the Federal Judiciary.

Responsibilities:

• Defend the order established by the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States.
• Maintain the balance between the different Powers and areas of government, through the judicial resolutions it issues.
• Solve, definitively, issues that are of great importance to society.

Integration

The SCJN works in full and by rooms. The plenary is made up of 11 ministers, one of whom acts as president and is elected by his peers.

All the ministers, except the presiding minister, are part of one of the two rooms, identified only as the first and second rooms.

Council of the Federal Judicature

It is an organ of the Judicial Power of the Federation responsible for the administration of justice in Mexico.

Function

Guarantee the administration, surveillance, discipline and judicial career, with the exception of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation and the Electoral Tribunal.

What is it for

Their actions are intended to allow the operation of District Courts and Circuit Courts and ensure their autonomy, as well as the objectivity, honesty, professionalism and independence of their members.

It works in plenary session or in six Commissions. The Plenary is made up of the seven directors.
