Of course, it was not surprising that Israel responded with disproportionate anger and violence to the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation launched by the Al-Qassam Brigades on October 7. Even among those who support Hamas under normal circumstances, a large number accuse it of behaving irresponsibly for taking this step with certainty of the consequences. The fact that they believe that Hamas took this step “suddenly” shows how indifferent they were to the profound humanitarian problems of the Palestinians on October 6 (one day before the attack).
On that day before the operation, the Palestinian issue had become a marginal matter in almost the entire world. Everyone accepted the status quo, including its friends. The Islamic world had come a long way towards normalizing relations with Israel, and what was happening in the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem no longer attracted its attention. And Al-Aqsa Mosque, as if it had become something taken for granted and normal. Meanwhile, the living spaces of the Palestinians were getting smaller by the day, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque – sacred to all Muslims – was gradually heading towards destruction.
The lack of strong reactions provided an excuse for everyone to accept the situation as it is, but this sky-high injustice can only be accepted if humanity has completely vanished, and accepting it means becoming a partner in it.
Hamas succeeded in making the Palestine issue the focus of the entire world again, and even made it a global issue of utmost importance, and it achieved this by escalating the conflict with Israel in smart and defiant ways.
With its latest operation, Hamas was able to transform this oppression – with which Muslims and the world have recently come to terms – into great global interest in the Palestinian issue, the issue of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In fact, Palestinian citizens in Gaza or the West Bank suffer daily from the oppression and terrorism of the occupation and settlement. Even the small details of what they are going through are so frightening, they make you ashamed of your humanity. In the West Bank – which is not under the rule of Hamas – the house that you have owned and lived in for generations can be taken away from you at any moment, bulldozers knock on the door to demolish the house on your head, or an American Jew will take it over to live in, and the Palestinian cannot move from one street to another until after Passing through three checkpoints, during which he is exposed to the rudeness of the invaders. These are ordinary, routine atrocities. Not to mention that they were beaten and killed. All this was still happening, but the cry was no longer reaching the rest of the world, not even Muslims.
The cries were suppressed so as not to go beyond the borders of Gaza and Jerusalem. Not only through false propaganda by Israel and its supporters, but waves of secularization, submission, and indifference among Muslims also contributed to this. To become indifferent to oppression, to take it for granted, to get used to living with it… It fills you with a feeling of helplessness that you cannot confront the injustice that you have always objected to and give up, but rather come to terms with it, and act as if it does not exist… This is what I mean by being partners To the oppressor in his injustice.
As we said, Hamas was able, with its recent operation, to transform this oppression – with which Muslims and the world have recently come to terms – into great global interest in the Palestinian issue, the issue of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. They have placed this issue at the top of the world’s concerns. They did this by presenting an epic image of manhood, heroism, and fortitude on a land against which Israel, the United States, and Europe waged war in the most cowardly ways, and against which they used the most powerful weapons and propaganda techniques.
Not only did they turn Israel’s iron dome into a refinery, but they also destroyed the steel domes of Western and Zionist tendencies in light of the imbalance of power. They caught the world’s attention, and all the streets of the Islamic world shook off the dust and began to wake up.
The streets of the Western world also began to wonder about the reason for the unconditional support that their governments provide to Israel and the kind of secret debt they owe to it. What are these people hiding from their people that makes them willing to accept the commission of genocide against a defenseless people in collusion with Israel, which bombs schools, hospitals, markets, churches and mosques and kills civilians and children?
Hamas has undermined values that the West promotes as its invention, such as human rights, freedoms, democracy, and equality, as only primitive racism, religious fanaticism, and genocide have emerged from them. Exposing this system, which is based on deceiving people, is a disappointment for Westerners, but it is a gain for humanity.
It is clear that most of those who see the Hamas operation as irresponsible behavior that does more harm than good are actually concerned about the incident disturbing their peace of mind. Hamas has disrupted the current world order based on oppression, hypocrisy, exploitation and inequality. It spoiled the plans of Islamic countries that had trained themselves to live in stability under its yoke. It is not surprising, then, that these countries feel disturbed by what Hamas has done.
Meanwhile, it is beginning to become clear that the epic heroism displayed by Hamas on October 7 was not a passing coincidence. Israel, which rose up with all its anger to take revenge, faces increasing disgrace every day in its ground operation. We see how the Al-Qassam Brigades enjoy clear superiority in field combat against the occupation forces, and have left Israel stuck in a real quagmire in which a cowardly soldier eager for his life confronts a strong hero who is ready to die as a martyr for his cause.
We said at the beginning: The process that began on October 7 was capable of changing the entire world. We are feeling this more clearly as time passes. With every bomb on Gaza, Israel buries a part of the shiny, false image it has accumulated of itself in every field over 75 years. Every child who dies causes great damage to the reputation of Israel and the West, and every martyr who falls on the land of Gaza quenches the parched hearts of Muslims around the world and renews their faith.
We have reached a moment when Muslims – all over the world – have completely exhausted their faith, trust and expectations in the West. This awakening in awareness puts pressure on their rulers, who have reached a stage where they cannot remain indifferent in the face of an awakened awareness that may reach the point of explosion.
As a result of this awareness and overwhelming popular anger, we saw the Islamic countries that had previously engaged in the process of “normalization” with Israel take a step back, and the Jordanian and Bahraini governments withdrew their ambassadors from Israel.
It is useful for anyone who honestly wonders why Hamas launched its attack at this time to try to look from previous angles.
