(Trends Wide Spanish) — The storms do not let up in the United States: in areas of the northeast they could accumulate more than 50 cm. of snow (20 inches) for Saturday, December 17, according to the forecast of the National Weather Service (NWS, according to its acronym in English).
Minnesota, Wisconsin and New York are three of the states that will accumulate the most snow, according to the center’s predictions, although in much of the north the amounts will be significant, with accumulations of 10 cm (4 inches) and up, such as can be seen on this map.
For the next few days, the greatest impact is expected to fall to the north and mainly the northeast, while currently the largest accumulations of snow are in the northwest. In areas of California, Oregon, the state of Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, between 5 and more than 50 cm of snow (2 to more than 20 inches) have been measured until this Wednesday, December 14.
Snow and blizzard: more than 35 million under alert
This Wednesday, a strong winter storm is bringing snow and blizzards to the Northern Plains, making travel conditions difficult. Impacts will reach Interstates I-80, I-90 and I-94.
That storm is expected to bring snow and ice from late Wednesday to the end of the week to the east.
By midweek, more than 35 million people were under winter weather alerts from parts of Utah, Idaho and Montana to the northern United States, in New England and Appalachia.

Heavy snow will stretch from the Northern Plains into the upper Midwest, where about 8 to 12 feet of snow could accumulate Thursday morning. Many places in the northern High Plains have already recorded more than 12 inches of snow from this storm, which is being described as a one-in-five-year storm by NWS forecasters.
Most of the snowfall will shift to the upper Midwest and Great Lakes on Thursday. Up to 12 inches of snow could accumulate in Arrowhead, Minnesota.
El nor’easter
There are parts of Pennsylvania where a mix of freezing rain and snow is most likely. And snow will be the main threat further north, in New York and then New England on Friday, where more than 12 inches of snow is expected as the storm begins to move away from the coast and becomes a nor’ easter.
Some of the large northeastern cities along the coast can expect 1 to 2 inches of heavy rain on the nor’easter weekend.
