(CNN) — The spotlight of a Virginia court this week has focused on the lawyer Camille Vasquez, one of the legal representatives of Johnny Depp in his fight for defamation against his ex-wife Amber Heard for an opinion piece he wrote in 2018 for The Washington Post.
In the piece, Heard described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Although Depp was not named in the article, he claims that he affected his reputation and caused him to lose his job.
Vásquez has captured the attention of those who follow the trial, now in its fifth week, for his tough questions.
During Tuesday’s questioning, the lawyer pressed Heard on several points, including her claim that drugs and alcohol turned Depp into a “monster” who became violent with her.
“Who was the real monster in this relationship, Miss Heard?” Vasquez asked.
“He’s half Johnny. He’s not all Johnny,” Heard replied. “The other half of him is wonderful and beautiful and the man I loved.”
But who is Vasquez?
She’s an attorney with the Brown Rudnick firm.
According to her bio on her website, she is an associate based in Orange County, California, working in her Litigation and Arbitration Practice Group.
“Her current practice focuses on defamation claims, with additional experience in contract litigation, company-related torts, and employment-related claims,” the bio says. “Camille is an expert in formulating offensive and defensive litigation strategies for private clients.”
She also has experience in crisis communication. Before joining Brown Rudnick, he worked for a national firm based in Los Angeles.
CNN has contacted Vasquez for comment.
