An early-season cold snap brought a wintry chill to parts of Pennsylvania this week, prompting the National Weather Service in Binghamton to issue freeze warnings and frost advisories for several northern and northeastern counties. The agency warned that the conditions could kill crops, harm sensitive vegetation, and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
This cold spell was part of a larger weather pattern impacting eight states with winter alerts. Frost advisories were also in effect for areas of Colorado, Vermont, and New Hampshire, while some regions received up to six inches of snow.
However, the cold in the Northeast is expected to be short-lived. According to Mark Pellerito of the National Weather Service, a significant warming trend will begin after Thursday night. “We will be in a warmer spell and so no frost/freeze conditions through the weekend through at least the middle of next week,” Pellerito stated. “In fact, widespread 70s to near 80 are forecast for highs this weekend under full sunshine.”
