According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 30% chance of snow showers after 4 p.m. Thursday. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 33.

Snow should enter New York City around 7 p.m. and be out of the area between 11 p.m. and midnight.

“We’ll probably get into the evening commute without the snow, but then it kicks in for a short period of time,” FOX 5 NY’s Mike Woods said. “We’re talking two, maybe three hours of light to moderate snow for a short bit, then it gets out of here.”

Polar vortex January 2025
What’s next:
A polar vortex will send temperatures tumbling below freezing in New York City next week. The FOX Forecast Center said a lobe of the polar vortex will dip to the south and move into the Tri-State area.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday in New York City will see a high near 20. On Wednesday, the high will be near 22. The FOX Forecast Center said temperatures will plummet as much as 45 degrees below average in spots.

Monthly temperatures are already running 5-10 degrees below average, and the FOX Forecast Center said this will all but ensure many locations in the eastern U.S. will see their coldest January in years.
