The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 1pm Tuesday until 7am Wednesday morning for parts of Central Maryland (including all of Montgomery County), DC, and Northern Virginia.
The storm is expected to begin between 1pm-3pm with heavier snow starting in the evening into Tuesday night. Snow is expected to continue into Wednesday morning. The snow has caused some school systems to make the decision to close early on Tuesday and that includes Frederick, Prince George’s, Fairfax, Loudoun, and even Baltimore counties. As of 10pm on Monday night, Montgomery, Howard, and Carroll counties (along with DC) will open on time– subject to change.
Snow will start in the afternoon, but likely won’t begin to stick for a couple hours after it starts. At that point, conditions will begins to quickly deteriorate. The National Weather Service (NWS) ‘Expected Snowfall’ map shows 4-6 inches for much of the area (80% chance) with the ‘High End Map’ showing 7-9 inches (10% chance) and the ‘Low End Map’ showing about 1-2 inches (10% chance).
