This weekend has two periods of snow coming. The second period could bring heavy snow and lots of drifting over eastern and southeast Lower Michigan. As a result of this second round of snow a winter storm watch has been issued.
Winter Storm Watch starts at 7 p.m. Saturday and continues to 7 p.m. Sunday.NOAA
The winter storm watch extends from Bay City and Midland south to Flint, Ann Arbor, Detroit and Monroe. The winter storm watch timeline gives you a good idea of when this second round of possibly heavier snow will occur. The winter storm watch runs from 7 p.m. Saturday tro 7 p.m. Sunday.
In the National Weather Service text for the winter storm watch they mention the possibility of eight inches of snow during the winter storm watch period.
We will also have quite a bit of wind Sunday. Wind gusts at any time through Sunday could be as fast as 40 mph.
If we do get several inches of dry snow and 40 mph gusts, blizzard conditions could develop.
We do still have quite a bit of differences in the various models. We will have to wait until late Saturday morning before we will have a confident idea of exact snow amounts.
Here’s the model that does the best job in this situation. You see the storm maturing just east of Michigan with southeast Michigan on the very back edge of heavy snow.
Radar forecast from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Sunday.NOAA
This is the total snowfall from now through Sunday night, from this same model. This includes the two to four inches over all of Michigan tonight and Saturday, and then the heavier snow for eastern and southeastern Michigan.
Total snow forecast through Sunday night. This forecast probably represents the low end of snow total possibilities.NOAA
It really won’t be a snow we can measure once the wind kicks in Sunday. The heaviest snow will likely pile up from Ann Arbor to Monroe, Detroit, Oakland County, Flint and the Thumb. It’s probably best called a four to eight inch total snow by late Sunday, but let’s see what everything says tomorrow.
So get ready for a light snow Saturday, and possibly a heavier snow Sunday for east and southeast Michigan.
Check here tomorrow for updates.
