Winter weather causes crashes across eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Winter weather has resulted in several crashes across eastern Nebraska on Friday.

Shortly before 2 p.m., the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rollover crash on a gravel road near North 1st Street and west McKelvie Road. One person was pinned in a vehicle and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

It’s unclear if weather played a factor in the crash.

Just after 4 p.m., the westbound lanes of Cornhusker Highway near 27th Street were shut down after a two-vehicle crash on the bridge over Salt Creek. The road reopened around 5 p.m.

One person was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

At 4:05 p.m., LSO said a vehicle rolled onto its top on Highway 2 near Jamaica Avenue. Two people were trapped in the vehicle.

No serious injuries were reported. Hickman Fire and Rescue is responding.

According to LPD, two vehicles were involved in a crash near 27th and Fair streets.

LPD said they responded to a two vehicle crash near 23rd and Cornhusker Highway at 4:02 p.m.

At 4:14 p.m., LPD said they responded to a 3-vehicle crash. No injuries were reported due to the crash.

A two vehicle crash occurred at 48th and Nebraska Parkway at around 4:30 p.m., according to LPD.

LSO reported a single-vehicle crash near Highway 77 and Ashland Road at 4:40 p.m. The vehicle slipped off the road and rolled multiple time. A woman had to be extracted from the vehicle. LSO said the woman sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

At 5:24 p.m., LPD said they are currently responding to five crashes.

The Nebraska 511 reported that a crash occurred on Highway 6 Eastbound, between Sandstone Lane and Schram Road near Gretna. The right lane is blocked.

Another crash was reported on Highway 63 southbound, between Davey Road and I-80 near Alvo.

At 8:47, the Nebraska State Patrol reported on social media that part of I-80 east of Lincoln is closed due to multiple crashes and poor driving conditions.

NSP posted on social media that I-80 was closed between west Omaha and Ashland at mile marker 426 to mile marker 439.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 9 a.m.

The city said its snow plow drivers are covering all 26 of Lincoln’s arterial routs.

LPD urges drivers to leave themselves with extra time to get where they need to go.
