The state media in Syria paid attention to covering gatherings in the cities of Hasaka and Qamishli in the north of the country, and said that they came “in support of the constitutional entitlement and rejecting the existence of the occupation.”
In what appeared to be the start of the election campaign of President Bashar al-Assad, Hasaka witnessed what the governorate’s press office described as a “national mass rally,” and said that it took place “in the square of the founding immortal leader Hafez al-Assad in the city of Hasaka.
SANA also said that the two cities witnessed “a popular gathering in support of the presidential elections, the unity of the Syrian soil and national sovereignty, and rejecting the Turkish and American occupations.”
SANA published photos from the gatherings in which pictures of Assad were raised, the two flags: the patriot, the flag of the ruling Arab Socialist Baath Party, and the slogans of “Youth of the Revolution” and “Vanguards of the Baath.”
In addition to signs bearing the words “God. Syria … Bashar and Bas” and “Yes to the leader of Assad … Yes to development … Yes to liberation.”
Several pages appeared on social media in support of President Al-Assad’s campaign, but they are unofficial, and the last of those pages (Sawa 2021) were closed a few days ago after Syrian newspapers reported that there is no official page and that everything related to this The matter is published on the official page of the Presidency of the Syrian Republic.
Recently, pages some of them run by the “Baath” began publishing a “biography” of President Al-Assad, with excerpts from his statements.
The country’s constitution stipulates that calls for the election of a president of the republic begin before the end of the term of the incumbent president in a period of not less than sixty days and not exceeding ninety days, which should happen as of mid-April.
