With Minister Piña: there is hope

This 2023 started on the right foot, the election of the first woman president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Minister Norma Piña Hernández, her message was simple and short but powerful, I would say that it was a rich breath of fresh air in in the midst of the suffocating situation in which our institutions seem to find themselves. I quote her: “neither triumphant nor victorious, honest, committed, responsible, legally and morally obliged to represent them with conviction and dedication, with passion and honesty.” Honesty… honesty, words that she repeated several times with dignity during her speech.

And honesty triumphed. During the last few weeks we have been trapped in the horror novel in which Minister Yasmín Esquivel plunged Mexicans, with the scandal of her plagiarized thesis. Being a woman and being the first is very important, but more important is reaching each seat with the sweat of your effort and with the result of your work; and that is not the case of Esquivel, but that of Minister Piña. Norma Piña is a lawyer with 34 years in the judiciary, the only one who ran for president with a true judicial career and the only one who has consistently voted for López Obrador’s controversial proposals, as she said: with study, with action and honestly.

Someone within the judiciary told me about her, he told me, – Soraya, Minister Piña is a very tough person, especially with women, but this is until you show her your love and dedication to the justice system, after that impasse. you do not stop admiring and respecting her, and she becomes your greatest reference.

As a woman who with sacrifices have broken my own glass ceilings and have avoided falling on the slippery floors of the Mexican political system, I know and recognize the importance of a woman presiding over the Supreme Court of Justice for the first time, but it could not be just any woman. . Because sorority is earned. It is deserved by those brave women who fought in more difficult times and who were able to inherit a Mexico with more opportunities, and so are our future generations.

For this reason, on behalf of many women who work with conviction and passion for our country, I extend the widest congratulations to Minister Norma Piña Hernández, and I thank each minister who voted not only for a woman but for Mexico, who They did not allow themselves to be blackmailed or threatened, who put the Republic above any interest, and more delicately, above their fears, legitimate fears because we know that whoever holds power today does not hesitate to use it to destroy their opponents.

There is a smile on my face that I have not been able to erase since I followed up on the session, what a way to start the year! We have to celebrate all Mexican women that a woman of values ​​and principles, a legal professional is in charge of the highest court in our country. There is still hope.
