Comcast Corporation’s (NASDAQ: CMCSA) European pay television counterpart Sky has launched Sky Glass. For a layman, this is a Smart television that gives users the option to stream content from its Sky television and the internet. The set up of screening content works without a satellite dish or a Sky Q set-top box. Thus, the sky is the limit when it comes to screening content.

Sky Glass is a streaming television

Beyond any doubt, the launch of the new smart television called Sky Glass is one of the most significant hardware announcements made since Comcast acquired sky in 2018. The takeover deal was valued at $39 billion back then.

At an event hosted in London on Thursday, it was announced that the television would be available in the U.K. from October 18 onwards. Subsequently, it will be available in Europe the following year.

In a statement, the chief executive of Sky, Dana Strong, said:

“Sky Glass is the streaming TV with Sky inside, providing the total integration of hardware, software and content.”

The new television will give competitors a good run for their money

The new TV was launched after Apple TV, and the Amazon Fire dongle was launched. Sky Glass streaming TV is all set to give its predecessors a good run for money. Available in five hues and three sizes, the smallest option of them all is priced at $17.70 per month in the U.K.

In an interview with Sky News which was aired on Thursday, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said:

“It’s an ‘offensive’ move, as opposed to a defensive one. All the wires are gone. All the boxes are gone. You can talk to it. It tells you what you want to see. It shows it to you right away. You can switch from music to exercise to television to news.”
