Woman, 18, dies after being hit by a bus near retail leisure complex in Portsmouth 

An 18-year-old woman has died after being hit by a bus near a retail leisure complex in Hampshire.

More than seven police vehicles, two ambulances and two fire engines were seen at the scene of the accident yesterday according to local media reports.

The collision happened last night at St George’s Road near Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth at 10.30pm.

A Hampshire police spokesman said the teenager, who was a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

He said: ‘We were called to the scene at 10.30pm last night following a collision between a bus and a pedestrian.

‘The pedestrian, an 18-year-old woman from Gosport, was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Her next of kin have been made aware.’

A group of people, with one covered in what appeared to have been a foil emergency blanket, was yesterday seen waiting outside the police cordon according to Portsmouth site The News.

A bystander speaking to the paper said: ‘They all looked distraught. They were hugging each other, some of them were crying.’

The force added the road was closed for several hours following the crash for police to investigate the scene.

The spokesman appealed for anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
