Woman bored of waiting for the right man becomes a single mother through sperm donation

After eight years on dating apps, Stacy Thomson was fed up. 

The search for Mr Right had stopped being fun years ago, and she was worried about how much longer it would take. 

‘I’d always wanted to be a mother, but at 41 – I knew that time was against me,’ Stacy tells Metro.co.uk. 

‘The men I matched with were more interested in letting me know that they were just “looking for a good time”, than finding out what I was looking for. They would even announce it a mere few lines into striking up a conversation.

At the same time as searching for a partner, Stacy began doing some tests to check her fertility levels. 

She wanted to know exactly how long she had before she should take matters into her own hands with sperm donation. 

‘My results came back one sunny July morning in 2020 with the news that my ovaries were literally dying. Having discovered I had very little time left, I made the decision to have solo IVF.

‘Honestly, I don’t think I gave myself enough time to talk myself out of it, or to be scared.

‘I knew I was capable of being a great mother – I just would have preferred a partner, too.’ 

Within three months, Stacy was pregnant with her son, Milo, who was born 16 months ago. 

When Stacey would discuss her decision to have a baby alone on the apps, she’d be faced with crude comments from men, like: ‘If you wanted some sperm, you should have just asked’. 

It cemented in her mind that there must be another way to date, and so now-happy with her situation after the birth of her son, Stacy turned her attention to helping others instead. 

Stacy revealed she has had a few dates since Milo was born and, while Mr Right hasn’t come along yet, she is ‘holding out hope’

‘In 2022, I launched my own dating app, REDDI, to connect people who wanted serious relationships, which would hopefully lead to creating, merging or joining families.

‘Our members don’t mind if their next relationship is the BIG one – they want that person to want the same thing as them, either in the short or longer term without the messing around, games or BS.’ 

While Stacy hasn’t found her Mr Right yet, she has been on a couple of dates since Milo was born. 

‘As a new mother, I don’t have time for anyone new in my life right now but I’m still holding out hope.’
