An Italian backpacker has been left ’embarrassed’ after a waitress at a popular Bondi restaurant told her she wasn’t dressed appropriately to dine there.

Martina Corradi was dining at the fish restaurant with her boyfriend on Thursday when she claims she was berated by a staff member because of her outfit.

Ms Corradi took to a community Facebook page to ask locals if her treatment seemed justified.

‘Hi guys I just want an opinion from outside,’ she wrote.

‘The waitress, as soon as I took a seat, she said that I’m not well dressed and this is not acceptable to stay in a place like that.

‘I felt very embarrassed and offended at the same time.’

Ms Corradi said she and her boyfriend were speechless at the waitress’ comments.

‘She called the manager and asked him to tell me that this is not how I should dress to go to a restaurant,’ she said.

Ms Corradi uploaded a photo of what she was wearing at the time, which consisted of white high-waisted linen pants, high heels and a lace bralet top.

‘I just want an opinion. I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy,’ she said.

‘Come on we are in COVID time, where restaurants are empty, how can you even think to kick someone out for a stupid thing like that.’

Dozens of locals commented on the Italian national’s post, assuring her she ‘looked great’.

‘I think you look lovely might have been a little underdressed for the opera but def not for Bondi beach half of the people are in their swimmers and towels,’ someone wrote.

‘It’s bloody Bondi! You look fine,’ said another.

Others said that while Ms Corradi looked nice, her top slightly resembled a lace bra and could have broken the restaurant’s dress code.

‘You are gorgeous. The top looks a bit like lingerie and your midriff is showing. In restaurants this can be against their dress code,’ one person said.

Daily Mail Australia has attempted to contact the restaurant for comment.
