Roberts Sarver, a 17-year owner of the Phoenix Suns, has been accused of racism and misogyny by more than 70 franchise employees during his tenure. Baxter Holmes is in charge of revealing information and interviewing witnesses through an investigation published by ESPN. Among the behaviors attributed to him are his use of racist vocabulary, his permissiveness with toxic work behaviors and his sexism.
“There is nothing you can tell me that surprises me about his misogyny or his racism,” declares a former executive. Sarver has been singled out multiple times for using terms that are frowned upon by non-blacks. Especially for an episode starring Draymond Green. The president denies ever using words like these. An anonymous co-owner states that “The level of misogyny and racism is off the radar. It is shameful”.
For his part, Sarver also has close people who deny this story. James Jones, current general manager, says that the Sarver presenting this story has nothing to do with the person he knows. Jason Rowley, president of the franchise and a man close to the owner for 15 years, speaks more vehemently. «This story is totally exaggerated and falsified. He is not a racist or a sexist. However, some of today’s workers argue that the owner defines himself as someone who is difficult to work with and who demands continuous overexertion from his employees.
The article also collects certain controversial chapters involving Amare Stoudamire, Lindsey Hunter, Earl Watson and Eric Bledsoe among others. Both in relation to racial and labor issues.
At the moment the matter has not passed to major. That is, it does not yet have legal implications. But the post could pose a big problem for Sarver’s NBA position and his overall reputation. There are some who even suggest that “if the commissioner were to inspect him, he would have to leave his post.”
