A woman initiated a very honest exchange about the ‘little things that drive people crazy’ after revealing her husband ‘leaves his marmalade knife poised over the sink like a diving board’ every morning.
Writer Clare Pooley, from London, took to Twitter and shared a snap of a dirty knife dangling over the edge of the basin, rather than being placed in the dishwasher.
Alongside the image, she penned: ‘After a year of lockdown, it’s the little things that drive you crazy. Every morning, the husband leaves his marmalade knife poised over the sink like a diving board. Why not in the dishwasher? Why?!?!? Anyone else coping with daily torture like this?!?
The post quickly garnered over 1,000 likes and was inundated with comments from men and women revealing bugbears from their other halves.
‘It’s as bad as the dirty clothes on the floor NEXT TO the laundry basket,’ wrote one, while a second admitted: ‘I get quite fed up with my other half never, ever shutting a cupboard door.’

In a follow up Tweet, Clare amusingly shared a second snap of not one, but two knives balancing on the sink edge.
She penned: ‘For those of you following this tale of a gradual breakdown of a marriage over lockdown, here is an update: I suspect the husband saw my tweet, as he appears to have escalated the conflict.’
In response, one person joked: ‘What sort of savage wouldn’t bother licking it first?’ while a second penned: ‘Ah the universal male sign for “might have more toast….might not.’
A third agreed: ‘That’s the one. Uncertainty if it’s use is finished with just yet.’

And when one person asked whether it was because the dishwasher needed to be emptied, Clare joked: ‘I’m afraid it’s worse than that. The knife gets left hanging over the sink REGARDLESS of the state of play regarding the dishwasher.’
Keen to get their own pet peeves off their chests, many flooded the comments section with their own frustrations.
‘Mine could beat that….rubbish, eggshells, peelings thrown and left in the sink (the sink that’s beside the bin) grease everywhere when frying….used teabags just left on the counter, I could go on…’ wrote one, while a second penned: ‘Tea spoons thrown in the sink! Never in the dishwasher which is right next to the sink.’
One person took the the comments section and wrote: ‘My husband has recently developed selective hearing which means I have to repeat everything before I get a response’ (pictured)
A third added: ‘What is it with the water in the pans? Instead of wasting water put some soap in there and WASH it! Thinks if he washes the dishes, the sink is clean too. and the counter and, magically, the table.
Elsewhere, many took issue with clothes being left on the floor, rather than in the washing bin.
‘My husband has gone from leaving clothes on a chair in the bedroom to leaving them on a chair in the living room,’ confessed one. ‘A living room wardrobe. He also leaves used cotton buds on the sink.’
A second added: ‘YES. Banana skins left on the coffee table that get buried under papers/books and eventually turn black and wizened. ‘Socks removed, rolled up and thrown UNDER the coffee table, apparently forever. And the tissues … Don’t even get me started on the tissues.’
